CUPRESSACEAE. Several ornamental conifers from E. Asia and W. N. America, formerly classed as Libocedrus. Easily grown and highly ornamental.

'INCENSE CEDAR', 'YULIL' (Cauhilla name), 'SPO KA-LA' (Yokia name). Beautiful dark green shining foliage in flat sprays. Neat, conical tree 50 - 150 feet, with reddish brown bark. Oregon & California. The fragrant foliage is used in Indian smudge mixtures. Slabs of bark used for making conical houses, & the rot-resistant wood used for bows. Hardy to Zone 3 or 4 at least. Easy from seed. Germinates in 3 - 6 weeks, & 1 - 2 months cold helps.

GINKGOACEAE. A single species. Sprouts easily.

'MAIDENHAIR TREE'. Hardy tree to 120 feet with handsome 2 - 3" fan-shaped leaves. Beautiful golden fall color. E. China. A relict species with identical fossils dating to 200 million years ago. Probably extinct in the wild (may occur wild in Zhejiang) and surviving only in cultivation. As this is the sole remaining member of a formerly widespread family, it is the prime example of preservation through dissemination, and a model species for biological enrichment. The seeds are eaten and both seeds & leaves are valued in Chinese medicine, and have been proven useful for a variety of conditions associated with aging. Hardy to Zone 5 or more, easily grown, pest free. Plant it everywhere!

When tubers are sold individually, count each tuber as one packet when figuring postage and packing. When tubers are sold by weight, figure like bulk seed.

AMORPHOPHALLUS (a-mor-fo-FAL-us)
ARACEAE. Curious large tropical arums grown in the greenhouse for the huge leaves and spathes. Best in rich moist soil, keep dry in winter rest.

'KONJAKU', 'SNAKE PALM'. Large, funnel-shaped velvety black-purple spathe to 16 - 24" long, with a spadix to 6 - 44" long. Large umbrella-like 3-parted leaves with whitish-pink color spotted green and white. SE Asia to Japan. Flowers after the leaves die off in summer. The tuber reaches a foot across, and they are processed for edible starch.

ARISAEMA (a-ri-SAY-ma)
ARACEAE. Many herbaceous perennial aroids valued for their curious spathes and leaves. Best in moist shady places, woods, and the tender species in the greenhouse. Keep dry during winter dormancy.

Beautiful, sweetly-scented 3 - 6" white spathes striped pink, in early summer. Hardy perennial to 16", with divided leaves. W. China. Zone 5 or 6. Said to be one of the most beautiful and sweetly-scented of Arisaemas. Choice!

Neat little yellow hoods under 2" long, purple inside, in early summer. Hardy species (Zone 4) to 9 - 12" tall, with pedately divided 5" leaves. Yemen to the Himalayas and China. Colonizes well. Germinates in 1 - 8 weeks warm.

Nice purple spathe with white or green stripes and netting at the top, with a long tail, early summer. Two trifoliate leaves. Himalayas, Kashmir to Tibet, to about 14,000 feet. Zone 5. It took our grower 12 years to build up his stock of this species to where he could offer them to us. Sure to sell out quickly.
